Entrepreneurship for Dummies

 Entrepreneurship for Dummies

By Kathleen Allen
(Wiley, 2000)

Recommended by Randy Swangard, director, New Venture Championship, University of Oregon

Swangard calls this primer, which is on his students’ reading lists, a good start for those writing their first business plans. The book may not suit those trying to land million-dollar venture investments to finance tech startups. But it covers the basics in a format that you can understand even if you haven’t gone to business school. “It’s straightforward,” Swangard says. “Ninety-nine percent of all people writing business plans aren’t going to launch the next Google.” Swangard cautions that no book can substitute for having an experienced entrepreneur look at the plan.
